Manuel Alvarez Bravo is considered one of the great photographic artists in Mexico working in the late 20th century. RoseGallery presented this exhibition of his photographs based on his famous images and along with the publication of his most recent, rarely unseen images which were taken from Bravo’s archives during the final years of his life. The photographs date from the 1920’s through the 80’s, but most were shot during his climatic fame of the 1930’s which were printed later under his supervision.

These photographs revealed a series of politics and culture and in a sense showed modernist formalism. With longing, solitude, and sincerity, I believe he discovered a way to capture indigenous tradition and Mexico’s urban life with visual poetry
