Elena Monzo was born in Orzinuovi, Italy, where she continues to live and work today.
“Elena Monzo (Brescia, Italy, 1981) presents her latest works on paper in her first show, INSIDE, at Bonelli Contemporary. Monzo’s work recalls the acid and aggressive form of the art brut and the comic underground. Fast and immediate images, her works live in an unusual formal freedom. Politically incorrect, the stories that she tells are devoid of narration but full of contemporaneous spirit as she explains: " There are no messages, only blasts, chaos: frames/cuts of life put together by coincidence, moments, gestures, and common places in which men are the main character ”. –Zvents.com I find it very humorous that Monzo quotes, “There are no messages, only blasts, chaos…which men are the main character,” because most women see men with those same characteristics. Giving some of her pieces titles such as “raw love,” I feel that Monzo has been able to capture a unique form of expressing sexuality. Her pieces are shocking as they creatively reveal erotic images of what I like to call, “kinky sex.” In one of these pieces, she even substitutes small flowers as vagina hair. Monzo’s artworks were some of the most unique that I have ever seen, and not to mention, mind blowing!
We are a group of Art students from the University of California Riverside who are attending a series of Art Galleries in several parts of Southern California. We have decided to use Blogger.com to post the pictures we take, and record our thoughts and opinions about the work we visit. You can find our critiques and thoughts on the work in the "comments" field, which appears below the pictures of the art.
