Joel Biel:
'The Jackal"
-Dani Tull
I love Tull's piece because it shows a lot the humor
and symbolism. For me the piece represents man as misguided, which of course is not always true. The man in the picture looks as though he has this jackal inside of him, but really its already become a part of who he is. I love the idea of combining reality with an emotion and being able to captivate it as one big idea.

I am going to comment on Joel Biel’s drawings which are the ones of the boy holding his head in his hands, and the decapitated head of a roman statue with butterfly eyes. I don’t really know what Biel’s purposes for these drawings are but I find them very fascinating. I believe them to be full of symbolism although probably none of which I can fully decipher. But I do assume that they have something to do with transition. Because the boy is holding his head in his hands, it seems like he is holding his own mind in his hands. Perhaps this drawing symbolizes the transition of growing up. Butterflies are normally a symbol of transition and perhaps a roman statue’s head represents the past, therefore, the drawing is meant to mean change from the past.
